We Got Our Evenings Back

The problem
Every night is the same: "Did I lock the door? Is the garage closed? Did anyone leave the kitchen lights on?" You get out of bed to check. Your partner does too. It's a ritual of anxiety that thousands of smart home users describe independently.
In the HA community, user sparkydave solved it by linking sleep tracking to their alarm system. When the smart watch detects sleep starting, the alarm arms and all lights go off. User realm takes it further with a single bedside button: TV off, doors lock, alarm set, temp drops to 60°F, power strip kills vampire power.
What people build
The Wind-Down (9 PM): Lights shift from cool white to warm amber. Hallway dims to 5% nightlight mode. Thermostat drops from 72 to 67°F — the sleep research sweet spot.
The Goodnight Button: One tap on a nightstand button or one voice command. Every door locks. Alarm arms. All lights go dark. Entertainment center powers off. Phone confirms: "House is secure."
The Morning: Blinds open gradually. Lights simulate sunrise. Thermostat nudges back to 70°F. No jarring alarm — just light.
What it costs
| Item | Cost | | --------------------------- | ------------ | | Smart thermostat | $100-250 | | Warm-tone smart bulbs (4-8) | $100-200 | | Smart lock | $200-300 | | Bedside button | $15 | | Total | $415-765 |
